You Now Need A Television Licence For BBC iPlayer or catch-up TV.
The new rules came into force from September 1st 2016.
Prior to this you only needed a licence if you watched live broadcasts.
Apparently there was some form of loophole which allowed you to watch these without paying for the TV licence.
The changes do not affect other streaming and on-demand media, such as ITV Hub, All 4, Amazon Prime and Netflix.
But, if you access iPlayer through another provider, such as Freeview, Freesat, YouView Sky, Virgin Media, BT Vision, Apple, Roku or Amazon, you will need their licence.
Its only the use of iPlayer apparently, that requires you to have a licence.
if you’re not watching or recording live TV, you don’t need a licence so you can still watch on-demand and catch-up TV as long as you don't use iPlayer.
Its just the BBC channels that you need a licence to view live or otherwise now.
To sum up, according to the licensing people, you will need a TV licence if you have a television and watch anything broadcast 'live'.
However, don't use iPlayer and you do not need a licence to watch catch-up television and on demand stuff like ITV catch-up or on-demand films from Sky etc.

You Now Need A Television Licence For BBC iPlayer
Re: You Now Need A Television Licence For BBC iPlayer
The British Bully Corporation have closed their loophole
Keep the BBC stuff - I don't want it
Its not fair really that you can't watch television in the UK without needing a licence.
The BBC don't own the airwaves or televisions.
If they want to protect the BBC stuff then they should scramble their broadcasts or something similar.
That way they can charge people for watching their stuff and not penalise anybody else for watching any other live broadcasts.
Who do they think they are?

The comedy that the BBC made in the seventies was very good.
Some from the sixties was also good but nothing passes the 70's stuff.
Re: You Now Need A Television Licence For BBC iPlayer
Oh yeah the seventies comedy can't be beaten.

Who needs the BBC anyway.
