Safe storage of the title deeds for your home.

Just a little poser:

Where is the safest place to store the property deeds for your house or maybe a business if they have the same sort of things?

I have mine stored in a plastic container in the garage, but I have recently noticed that there has been a mouse in there chewing things up.

Do we need to keep hold of these title deeds because I am sure the Land Registry will have a copy?

If the title deeds become illegible through storing them wrongly, would it be possible to get hold of a physical copy of them again?

My mortgage is all paid off now, so I have to concentrate on the maintenance of the property and that is going to take quite a bit of time and money.

In the meantime, I need to know if these title deeds are so valuable that they need extra care because as it is, they are very vulnerable the way I have stored them.

Your copy of the title deeds are not important in the slightest.
You can go to the Land Registry website and download a copy.
It costs three quid.
The Land Registry have the originals, and it's their house now, if you believe that by registering anything you have given it away.
I bet the Crown has its hand in all this property registration lark.
Sell your house and splash it on yourself because you can't take it with you.
Go on a cruise or two and get a new car, then rent a place.

Just keep your paperwork as safe as you can.
Your copy of the title deeds are not too important because it has been stated that you can download them from the internet.
However, that costs money, so just store them as safely as you possibly can.
What would happen in a situation where the originals become destroyed
I don't know how this would be possible, but if you have something to show than it backs up any disputed claim.

Yeah, the bit of paper you have is not that valuable when you consider you can print it off the internet.
I would still keep it safe somewhere.
Just store the title deeds with your driving licence or bank statements etc.

The "title deeds" that you get are not worth the paper they are written on!
The registered property belongs to the Crown, just like your car, if you have one.
You are only "the keeper" so will not have ownership, they own it all, sorry.
