TV Licence - New Threat

This forum is for all licensing matters, for example, the driving licence. The American spelling is license, but they mean the same thing - a con! When you apply for one, you are begging them to give it to you.

TV Licence - New Threat

Post by Freeman Bob »

TV Licence - New Threat

I have recently received what I consider to be a new threat from the television licence people.
On the front is a massive calendar with a date circled.

Normally I just put these letters straight in the bin, but I thought on this occasion I would open this one, as it seems the goons are taking a different approach.

The date they circled is an exact date at which they will start a full investigation.
Oh, I am going to have fun with this

Here is what the rest of their threatening letter says, notice how they say that you are "breaking the law" under their conditions.

Dear Sir or Madam,

There is no record of a TV Licence at this address. This means you are breaking the law if you are watching or recording programmes as they're being shown on TV, on any device.

We will not visit you for 10 days, but you must get correctly licensed.
We know how difficult it is to pay the bills at the moment. That's why we're giving you until (investigation date) to get correctly licensed. Our investigation of your address has been put on hold, and we will not send an Enforcement Officer to your address during this time.

Call us on 0300 790 6156 by (investigation date).
One of our specialist advisors will help check if you need a TV Licence. If you do, they'll help you find the best way to spread the cost. For example, our payment card lets you pay from £5.60 a week at any PayPoint. You can also pay by Direct Debit, or apply for a free licence if you're 75 or over.

If you think you don't need a licence, you should tell us in the next 10 days so we can update our records.

What happens if you decide to do nothing.
If you don't contact us by (investigation date), we will then start a full investigation of your address. Please turn over for more information.

Yours faithfully ........................

The thing you do with these type of letters is to ignore them!
See the advice in the other thread.
I am free and they will not tell me otherwise

John, those letters are not all that new!
I have seen one before.
I ignored mine about six months ago, and I am still waiting for them to call.
Furthermore, I think it's quite shocking that they say you are breaking the law for not having a television licence - where is the injured party?
I think they are committing a crime for intimidating people.
Putting people "under investigation" is causing them undue alarm.

No, it's not a new threat.
The goons have been sending this sort of crap out for a while.
Ignore them.
I am free and they will not tell me otherwise

That letter is not a new campaign by them.
They usually send them after getting no response from the occupier.

Does the DVLA put people under suspicion when a car is not registered at your address :headscratch:
Why should the TV licensing goons do this?
Under investigation indeed!
